About The Position

This position is within Emory University's School of Medicine, specifically in the Pediatrics, Infectious Disease department. The role involves coordinating, implementing, and evaluating clinical research trials, studies, and projects. Responsibilities include developing research protocols, recruiting and screening participants, educating patients and families, managing financial accounts for research operations, performing patient evaluations, administering medications and research instruments, and providing nursing support for specialized procedures. The role also involves making referrals, collecting and compiling data, assisting in developing data collection systems, and potentially performing infusion duties. Additionally, the position may involve assisting in writing research grants, publications, study materials, brochures, and correspondence. The Clinical Research Nurse II may also provide direction and supervision to other research nurses or support staff. Employees in this role may need to handle potentially hazardous agents and take necessary precautions or receive immunizations.

Requirements

  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.
  • Three years of related nursing experience.
  • Must be credentialed through Emory Healthcare under the category of RN II.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate of Science degree in nursing or higher required.
  • Registered Nurse with current Georgia license.
  • Two or more years of clinical or related experience, preferably in the subspecialty of involvement.
  • Must have phlebotomy skills.
  • One year or more of research experience required with knowledge about the conduct of clinical trials.
  • Self-directed and motivated to work independently toward short and long term goals.
  • Possess strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in nursing preferred.
  • Any exposure to HIV clinical research is helpful, but not essential.
  • Process oriented, with excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Neonatal and pediatric phlebotomy skills.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, implements, and evaluates clinical research trials, studies, and projects.

  • Develops and conducts patient and family education.
  • Oversees financial accounts to ensure operations remain within approved levels.
  • Performs patient evaluations, administers medications and research instruments.
  • Provides nursing support to perform specialized diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical procedures.
  • Makes referrals to in-house or community professionals and serves as clinical resource.
  • Collects data, assists in developing data collection systems and compiles reports.
  • May provide infusion duties.
  • Assists in writing research grants, publications in medical and nursing literature, study materials, brochures and correspondence.
  • Provides direction and may supervise other Research Nurses or other support members.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
