About The Position

The Clinical Research Assistant will assist the Orthopaedics Tumor faculty with clinical research activities and will help with the resident microsurgery training lab, which uses a rat model. Must be willing to be trained to work with this model system.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in relevant field OR Associate's AND 2 years of relevant experience OR 3 years of relevant experience OR Equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Prior clinical and/or research experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Typing, editing, proof reading skills.
  • Analytical and extremely detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior research experience.
  • Knowledge of IRB process.
  • Familiarity with basic statistics.
  • Prior database management experience.
  • Exceptional computer skills and ability to learn new software.
  • Knowledge of Epic.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in developing new research questions and projects, conducts thorough literature reviews, determines correct methods to answer research questions, and prepares protocols.
  • Assists in preparing research grant proposals and submissions.
  • Ensures study confirms to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) standards and Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, prepares IRB forms and any necessary electronic IRB documentation, oversees eIRB submission and maintains eIRB documentation, prepares and maintains study source and regulatory documents.
  • Schedules patients and ensures that study timelines are followed.
  • Collects/organizes/analyzes research data, project-specific responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: creates standard operating procedures and designs forms for data collection, coordinates recruitment, scheduling, and testing of research subjects, conducts chart review to abstract pertinent data fields, queries databases to obtain data, manages and cleans data, conducts statistical analyses.
  • Assists with surgical specimen collection and lab processing of specimens.
  • Assists in revising and preparing manuscripts, formats manuscripts for specific journal requirements.
  • Attends lab meetings and other relevant educational functions.
  • Prepares reports on project status and sends updates.
  • Assists with training of new research staff and mentoring School of Medicine students and volunteers per departmental standard operating procedures.
  • Assists with the set up and workflow of the microsurgery rat lab, which involves anesthetizing the rats and setting up the training equipment.
