About The Position

We are seeking a Clinical Research Assistant II - Bangor, ME who will have a pivotal role in an NIH-funded research study and will be located in Bangor, ME. This position will specifically support a Respondent-Driven Sampling study based in Bangor, Maine, with primary responsibilities in participant enrollment, biological specimen collection, rapid infectious disease testing, and coordination with the Johns Hopkins research team. They will partner with local community-based organizations in Bangor, Maine, to address the ongoing outbreak of HIV among people who inject drugs. This position will work closely with the lead team in Baltimore to recruit research participants, collect and ship study specimens, perform rapid testing, and collect study data in accordance with study-specific procedures. The role will involve community outreach, data collection, sample collection, laboratory work, and field work. This position will also provide general administrative support for meetings/events, communications, and reporting as needed by the lead team. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University conduct clinical trials and clinical studies to discover new ways to prevent and treat diseases and other health problems. The Clinical Research Assistant II will support the research team by implementing steps and processes of a clinical research protocol. The position will perform both administrative tasks related to day-to-day clinical research operations and protocol-related duties requiring an understanding of research procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • One year of related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Responsibilities

  • Collect study data by recruiting and coordinating the activities of study participants.
  • Utilize a basic understanding of the clinical study background and rationale to explain the study for potential and current participants.
  • Assist in developing a recruitment strategy for one or more studies.
  • Collect specimens for both rapid testing and laboratory processing.
  • Ship specimens for additional testing.
  • Implement a variety of techniques for recruitment, e.g., print and web-based advertisements, contact referring physicians, participate in community events, etc.
  • Set up tools and procedures for data collection and study processes.
  • Perform data entry and organize data into a REDCap online database.
  • Serve as liaison between study team and IRB for routine administrative matters.
  • Prepare routine reports related to study accrual, study trends, and efficiency-related issues.
  • Administer informed consent procedures and surveys to study participants.
  • Perform venipuncture/blood draws in accordance with established protocols.
  • Conduct rapid HIV and HCV testing on-site following manufacturer and study guidelines.
  • Process biological specimens according to study protocols.
  • Package and ship specimens from the Bangor field site to Johns Hopkins University for storage, ensuring compliance with all shipping regulations for biological materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of participant enrollment, specimen collection, and test results.
  • Ensure compliance with human subjects research protocols and maintain participant confidentiality.
