The Clinical & Quality Lead (CQL) is a key leadership role within the community leadership team, reporting to the Resident Care Manager with professional accountability to the Quality, Practice & Education team. The CQL supports excellence in clinical practice through staff education, coaching, and quality improvement leadership. Working closely with the Site Administrator and Resident Care Manager, the CQL partners in building a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and person-centred care. The CQL functions as a leader without direct reports, modeling best practices and functions as a trusted clinical leader, coach and mentor for frontline staff. This is a highly visible, hands-on role, with the expectation of regular presence on the floor. The CQL plays a key role in translating policies, standards, and organizational goals into everyday practice and is a champion of continuous learning and clinical excellence.

Requirements

  • Regulated Health Professional in good standing (Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in continuing care, long-term care, or a related healthcare setting.
  • Proven ability to lead education, facilitate learning, and coach staff in clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement principles, clinical standards, and adult learning.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and be a visible leader in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to deal effectively with emergent and urgent clinical and operational situations.
  • Ability to assist in implementing changes to the Care Program employed in and to overall site care and services.
  • Planning and delivering the annual and mandatory education requires incumbent to be very creative as the same material is refreshed annually.
  • Ability to adjust the education to meet staff learning levels, needs and style.
  • Ability to mentor and coach staff in a professional manner.
  • Responsible for designing annual, mandatory and responsive education programs.
  • Plans modified staff return to work activities in conjunction with the Resident Care Manager or Site Administrator.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a clinical leader and subject matter expert, modeling best practices and coaching frontline staff in real time.
  • Assess staff learning needs and develop, deliver, and evaluate education plans that support safe, high-quality, person-centred care.
  • Deliver and track the Covenant Education Calendar for the community, ensuring core annual education and organizational priorities are implemented effectively.
  • Build and maintain practical, relevant, and accessible education content (in-person, digital, and hybrid formats).
  • Coach and mentor frontline staff on clinical best practices, standards, and policies in real-time, primarily on the floor.
  • Deliver education and onboarding to new team members and support ongoing competency development.
  • Collaborate with the Quality, Practice and Education team to ensure alignment of content, delivery methods, and evaluation.
  • Champion use of the Learning Management System (LMS) by supporting staff completion, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring accurate and timely tracking of all mandatory and community-specific education.
  • Support and lead quality improvement initiatives and audits at the community level, aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner with community leadership in analyzing trends, implementing corrective actions, and driving improvements in resident outcomes.
  • Collaborate on risk mitigation strategies, incident reviews, and follow-up education as required.
  • Provide education, coaching, and support to ensure accurate and timely completion of RAI-MDS assessments, and promote best practices in assessment, care planning, and clinical documentation aligned with RAI standards.
  • Assist with readiness for accreditation and licensing reviews by ensuring staff compliance with clinical expectations and standards.
  • Identify gaps in knowledge or practice and respond with practical, timely coaching and education on the floor.
  • Actively participate in daily huddles, leadership meetings, and cross-functional planning at the community.
  • Support a just and learning culture through coaching, reflective practice, and professional development.
  • Serve as a liaison between frontline staff and leadership, helping translate practice standards into day-to-day excellence.
  • Adapt hours and presence to meet the needs of the community including evenings, nights, weekends, or holidays as necessary.
  • Support the Resident Care Manager and assume leadership responsibilities in their absence, including oversight of clinical operations and decision-making.
  • Participate in the leadership on-call rotation providing after-hours support and direction for urgent clinical or operational issues.
