About The Position

We are seeking a professional, detail-oriented, compassionate Clinical Psychologist to provide counseling services at the Military Medical Center (MOMMC), 99th Medical Treatment Facility (MTF), Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada. This contract role supports medical operations with the primary mission of maintaining medical readiness for worldwide contingencies by providing quality, cost-effective healthcare. The role involves practicing within ethical guidelines, conducting psychological evaluations, diagnosing psychiatric disorders, and providing various treatment modalities in an outpatient setting. The psychologist will also facilitate inpatient admissions, handle sensitive information, respond to consultation requests, conduct assessments for other providers, serve on multidisciplinary teams, provide consultations to commanders, evaluate TDRL members, prepare assessments for Medical Evaluation Boards, render fitness/suitability determinations, conduct training activities, and engage in program development and outcome research.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PH.D.) or Psy. D.) degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited psychology program or a program acceptable to the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force.
  • Must maintain a current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a psychologist in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Must have a minimum of two years’ (2) experience as a clinical psychologist post completion of an APA accredited Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) or Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) program.
  • Must meet clinical competency requirements specified in the Service-specific credentialing instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment.

Responsibilities

  • Practice within the guidelines of their state licensing board, American Psychological Association Ethical Principles and Code of Conduct, and MTF privileges.
  • Conduct psychological evaluations utilizing information from clinical interviews, psychological testing, and collateral sources, as appropriate.
  • Accurately diagnose all major psychiatric disorders in accordance with the most current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders of the American Psychiatric Association.
  • Promptly determine the appropriate treatment setting and provide a variety of effective treatment modalities in an outpatient setting, which include psychopharmacology and the traditional interactive psychotherapies.
  • Routinely be effective in facilitating inpatient admissions to psychiatric inpatient facilities.
  • Handle and safeguard classified or sensitive information in an appropriate manner.
  • Respond to consultation requests in accordance with the time indicated by the referring medical provider.
  • Thoroughly conduct assessments and offer appropriate guidance for other providers in the treatment of patients who present with secondary psychiatric complaints.
  • Serve effectively as a member of the mental health flight multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Provide timely and accurate psychiatric consultation to commanders in all acute circumstances.
  • Evaluate members on TDRL status and render appropriate recommendations and dispositions in accordance with pertinent local MTF policies.
  • Prepare thorough and accurate psychiatric assessments for Medical Evaluation Boards in accordance with the guidance provided by local MTF Policies.
  • Render fitness/suitability for duty determinations, and ensure that all members referred for security clearances, flying operations, personnel reliability program, and special assignments are capable of such responsibilities from a mental health perspective.
  • Conduct a professional training activity for mental health flight staff, interns, students and residents in accordance with established guidelines and time frames.
  • Engage in program development and outcome research to improve clinic services to beneficiaries.
  • Abide by medical staff bylaws upon acceptance of privileges.
