About The Position

The Diagnostic Evaluation Stabilization Center (DESC) at New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital provides high-quality, state-of-the-art acute psychiatric care to pediatric patients. The center serves a diverse patient population from Washington Heights, Inwood, and surrounding areas, with a focus on families from marginalized and underserved, lower socioeconomic backgrounds, primarily Latinx and African American communities. Many patients have not had previous mental health services. DESC functions as an outpatient crisis program to stabilize youth in need of psychiatric care while engaging their parents, families, and caregivers in treatment. This role involves joining a dynamic, multicultural, interdisciplinary behavioral health care team working with youth and their families/caretakers experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Clinicians will provide diagnostic assessment, crisis stabilization, short-term individual psychotherapy, and collateral sessions in an outpatient setting for youth with a range of anxiety, mood, and behavioral disorders, as well as suicide risk. The care provided is trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based, aiming to strengthen relationships and build skills for positive health outcomes and future success. The position also includes providing consultation, training, and prevention work to hospital partners and community providers and agencies.
