About The Position

This position resides within the Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Mental Health Directorate, located in Temecula, California. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be authorized. Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.

Requirements

• US Citizens
• Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology.
• Current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction.
• At least one year of specialized experience, which includes conducting psychological evaluations, providing individual or group counseling services, and implementing therapeutic treatment plans.
• Must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a Clinical Psychologist Mental Health Consultant (MHC) for the Clinic and Mental Health System of Care (MHSOC) Primary Care Mental Health (PCMH) program.
• Determine mental health diagnoses in accordance with the most recent version of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) when differential diagnosis is required.
• Provide individual and group treatment, using various modalities as clinically indicated to include brief problem-focused interventions, cognitive-mental therapy, and psychoeducational classes.
• Assess and provide intervention for individuals with a wide range of chronic medical conditions, and mental health issues affecting medical conditions.
• Consult with primary care providers to select, approve, and document treatment priorities.
• Educate clinic staff on the principles of primary care mental health via trainings and briefings.
• Conduct outpatient group classes, stress management, relaxation training, assertive/social skills training, smoking cessation training, substance abuse identification and brief related interventions appropriate for primary care.
