About The Position

This position is located at the Naval Health Clinic Annapolis in Annapolis, Maryland. The incumbent serves as a clinical psychologist embedded within an interdisciplinary primary care team and works collaboratively with primary care providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. The position is full-time and primarily on-site during the clinic's established operating hours; it is not remote or telework eligible. The psychologist can expect to improve timely access to mental health services by providing focused assessments, same-day consultation and warm handoffs, brief evidence-based interventions, group education, and clinical guidance to the primary care team. Through this work, the incumbent will help improve patient outcomes, integrate mental and physical healthcare, and strengthen population-based care for Military Health System beneficiaries. The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 0800-1600, with occasional schedule adjustments or travel as mission requirements dictate. Requirements

  • Degree: Doctoral Degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) directly related to full professional work in clinical psychology. (You must provide a copy of your transcripts)
  • One year of specialized experience which includes performing psychological assessment of various psychological disorders; documenting clinical treatment plans in timely manner; conducting individual and group therapy sessions using therapeutic techniques; and developing behavioral health treatment plans and evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment efforts.
  • Current, active, valid, unrestricted clinical license to practice Psychology independently, offered by a U.S. State, District of Columbia, commonwealth, territory or jurisdiction. (NOTE: You must provide a copy of your license with your application package.)
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment.
  • A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • Immunization screening may be required.
  • Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
  • Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • This position requires a 1 year probationary period during which the agency evaluates your fitness and whether your continued employment advances the public interest.
  • Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Permanent Change of Station (PCS) allowances may be authorized, subject to the provisions of the Joint Travel Regulations and an agency determination that a PCS move is in the Government Interest.

Responsibilities

  • Make mental health diagnoses in accordance with Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
  • Provide individual and group treatment.
  • Assess acute mental health and mental medicine conditions.
  • Perform biopsychosocial evaluations using expert knowledge of clinical psychology.
  • Conduct outpatient group classes, stress management, relaxation training, and smoking cessation training.
  • Participate in quality assurance activities.
  • Monitor the use of community resources.
  • Provide expertise in human behavior as a mental health team member.
  • Evaluate training opportunities and orientation activities.
  • Provide consultation to other clinic providers regarding psychological treatment options.
