About The Position

Merrimack College is seeking an outstanding and highly motivated Open Rank Clinical Professor of Athletic Training to join the Department of Athletic Training and Exercise Science within the Division of Health Sciences. This role is part of the CAATE-accredited 5-year accelerated Master of Science in Athletic Training program. The position is a non-tenure track faculty position for 9-12 months, starting July 1, 2027. The ideal candidate will be experienced in curricular and course development, BOC exam preparation and testing, clinical instruction, and didactic instruction in athletic training. Experience in simulation development, implementation, and evidence-based practice is a plus. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging with pre-professional students, advising, and supporting recruitment and retention. Collaboration with faculty on programmatic assessment, policy development, interprofessional education, and CAATE accreditation maintenance is expected. Teaching may include courses on clinical examination and diagnosis of extremities and spine. Administrative leadership opportunities may be available. Faculty are also expected to contribute to departmental, college, and professional service, including curriculum development and accreditation support.

Requirements

  • Master's or doctorate degree (preferred) in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, or a closely related field.
  • Current BOC certification and Massachusetts state license (eligible).
  • A minimum of five years of experience working as an Athletic Trainer with evidence of current clinical skills, knowledge, and competence in the area of clinical instruction.
  • Experience teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in a CAATE-accredited program.
  • Demonstrate strong clinical knowledge, effective teaching and mentoring skills, and commitment to supporting student learning and professional development within the Athletic Training program.
  • Demonstrate commitment to fostering a supportive and student-centered educational and clinical environment.
  • Experience designing and delivering effective didactic, laboratory, hybrid, and online learning experiences in higher education.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative, student-centered approach to teaching, mentoring, and professional engagement.
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to determine roles and responsibilities for fulfilling, monitoring, and rehearsing NCAA health and safety-related requirements.
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and an understanding of healthcare disparities impacting historically underserved communities.
  • Outstanding record of professional service commensurate with career stage.

Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate athletic training courses.
