About The Position

Lackawanna College is seeking a part-time Clinical Preceptor/Laboratory Assistant for its Surgical Technology Program. This role is responsible for supervising students at clinical sites to ensure they meet the required number of surgical cases for accreditation and certification. Additionally, the assistant will support laboratory instruction by helping with course activities and providing students with extra hands-on practice. This is a semester-based, 24 hour/week, non-tenure track position. Lackawanna College has been recognized as one of the 'Best Places to Work in PA' multiple times.

Requirements

Highest Academic Degree of Surgical Technology education, an Associate Level Degree, or education level needed to achieve Credentials of Certified Surgical Technologist.
Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential.
A minimum of two years of experience within the past five years, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both.

Nice To Haves

College teaching experience in health care or related fields.
Experience supervising and educating Surgical Technology students.
Familiarity or experience with CAAHEP Accreditation requirements for Surgical Technology programs.

Responsibilities

Collaborate effectively with the Clinical Coordinator to ensure proper support of clinical rotations.
Ensure that each assigned student participates in the required number of cases and procedures to meet accreditation and certification standards.
Request resources needed for clinical practice and rotations.
Maintain collaboration and communication with clinical sites on a routine basis and be available to supervise clinical rotations on site.
Report to the Surgical Technology Program Director on a weekly basis.
Report to the Clinical Coordinator daily.
Keep program staff informed of the progress of each student.
Maintain up-to-date records of each student’s clinical rotations and evaluations.
Submit records to the Clinical Coordinator timely.
Develop positive working relationships with preceptors at each clinical site and keep them informed of changing standards while maintaining professional behaviors.
Assist the Instructor with preparation of labs, carrying out laboratory activities, practical examinations, and skills proficiency check-offs for various Surgical Technology classes and open lab hours as assigned.
Maintain current knowledge of the Surgical Technology profession, clinical skills, and educational methodology through continuing professional development.
Perform other duties as assigned, including those related to CAAHEP accreditation requirements and community service.
