About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care, a leading academic medical center, is seeking a visionary nurse leader for the 4JPP Medical Surgical Oncology Unit. This 44-bed unit provides acute oncology care, including chemotherapy administration and symptom management, as well as post-operative care for complex oncology-related surgeries. The unit is part of the NCI-designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and is recognized for its top-ranked cancer care. The unit fosters an energizing and healthy work environment with specialized training, a collaborative multidisciplinary approach, and a commitment to shared governance and professional recognition. Opportunities include precepting nursing students, participating in clinical trials, and working with experts in medical and surgical oncology.

Requirements

  • Current, valid license to practice nursing in Iowa
  • 3+ years of clinical nursing experience
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with staff education and development
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with outcomes based practice and quality improvement
  • Demonstrates knowledge and experience with leading change processes including implementation of evidence-based practice
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in computer software applications

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Nursing with a Specialty in Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL/CNS) designation preferred
  • Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) – Certification by the Commission on Nurse Certification or certification relevant to clinical specialty
  • Demonstrate ability to understand and deliver care at the microsystem level while being part of a larger, complex environment
  • Role models professional and clinical practice
  • Experience with nursing research
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills and ability to problem solve
  • Member/active participation in professional organization(s)
