About The Position

University of Iowa Health Care, a comprehensive academic medical center and regional referral center, is seeking a Clinical Practice Leader (CPL) for its 4JPP Medical Surgical Oncology Unit. This unit is a 44-bed adult medical-surgical oncology unit that cares for patients requiring acute oncology care, including chemotherapy administration and symptom management, as well as surgical patients receiving post-operative care for complex oncology-related surgeries. The unit is part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center and is recognized for its commitment to quality patient care, professional development, and nursing leadership through its shared governance model. The CPL will champion clinical care, drive evidence-based practice, provide mentorship, ensure staff competencies, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

Master’s degree in Nursing required.
Current, valid license to practice nursing in Iowa.
3+ years of clinical nursing experience.
Demonstrates knowledge and experience with staff education and development.
Demonstrates knowledge and experience with outcomes-based practice and quality improvement.
Demonstrates knowledge and experience with leading change processes including implementation of evidence-based practice.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in computer software applications.

Nice To Haves

Specialty in Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL/CNS) designation preferred.
Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) – Certification by the Commission on Nurse Certification or certification relevant to clinical specialty.
Demonstrate ability to understand and deliver care at the microsystem level while being part of a larger, complex environment.
Role models professional and clinical practice.
Experience with nursing research.
Strong critical thinking and analytical skills and ability to problem solve.
Member/active participation in professional organization(s).
