The Clinical Pharmacist – Nights, 7 On/7 Off provides overnight clinical and operational pharmacy support at Hillcrest Hospital, serving a diverse inpatient population across Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, the Emergency Department, and general inpatient services. This caregiver is responsible for medication order verification and entry, responding to clinical and operational needs, and collaborating with pharmacists and technicians to ensure safe and efficient medication management. Working in a fast-paced inpatient environment, this role plays an essential part in maintaining pharmacy operations and supporting high-quality patient care throughout the night. A caregiver in this position will work a full-time variable night schedule, with shifts between 9:00pm and 7:00am. Caregivers participate in an every fourth weekend rotation, work two holidays per year, and can expect approximately 5–7 evening shifts per month. This is an onsite position at Hillcrest Hospital with no formal float expectations.

Requirements

  • PharmD or Bachelors of Science degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current State licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current State within 90 days of hire.
  • For individuals required to administer immunizations, Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross and completion of a Board of Pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations or certification obtained within 90 days of hire are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Board Certification preferred.
  • Completion of a post-graduate year 1 residency (PGY1), fellowship or relevant post-graduate pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Post-graduate year 2 residency (PGY2) or relevant experience preferred for Clinical Pharmacists hired in a Specialized Pharmacy practice area

Responsibilities

  • Provides safe, efficient, patient-centered, evidence-based medication services.
  • Independently assumes responsibility for the full scope of pharmacy operations typically distributed across multiple pharmacists, technicians, and specialized roles during daytime hours, ensuring safe, accurate, and timely medication use.
  • Performs all distributive, technical, and operational pharmacy functions without onsite support, including medication verification and dispensing, operation and troubleshooting of automated medication systems (e.g., carousel), and preparation of sterile compounded medications.
  • Delivers clinical and operational pharmacy support, with bedside response as required, for high acuity events such as cardiopulmonary arrest and stroke alerts, serving as the sole onsite pharmacist.
  • Provides immediate assessment, troubleshooting, and resolution of system downtime, automation failures, and facilities disruptions, and escalates issues appropriately to on call pharmacy leadership, IT, facilities, and other support services.
  • Verifies medication orders and/or dispenses medications accurately according to state and federal regulations.
  • Documents services in a complete, accurate and timely manner.
  • Utilizes available technology proficiently and to full extent, in their area of practice.
  • Ensures all pharmacy operations are in compliance with national accreditation standards.
  • Maintains professional interactions with patients to facilitate successful patient experiences.
  • Maintains professional working relationships with all caregivers.
  • Promotes a positive work environment by providing constructive ideas and feedback to improve services and the department.
  • Educates and trains students, residents, other caregivers, and/or patients.
  • Provides cost-effective care.
  • Accountable for drug use policy adherence.
