This job monitors and evaluates drug therapy for appropriateness based on the patient’s health status, institutional criteria/guidelines, and cost efficient measures; assumes responsibility for the management of pharmacy services to assigned areas for the goal of improving patient outcomes; provides drug information to health care personnel; participates with appropriate medical team on patient care rounds; precepts pharmacy students and residents; and provides in-services/education to pharmacy and other health care providers when appropriate. Requirements

  • Education Required – Graduate of an accredited School/College of Pharmacy
  • Certifications Required – Licensed to practice pharmacy in the State of Louisiana, or eligible for licensure by examination or reciprocity from another state
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to exhibit good clinical experience in specialty as well as leadership/teaching skills.
  • Ability to understand the distributive process of the Pharmacy within 45 days from hire.
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations as required.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule as needed such as nights, evenings, weekends, etc.

  • PGY1 Residency in Pharmacy Practice Preferred
  • PG21 Residency in Pharmacy Practice

Responsibilities

  • Performs patient assessment and care.
  • Conducts Pharmacoeconomics.
  • Educates staff, students, patients, health care providers and other health care professionals.
  • Mentors residents, students and new staff to meet departmental goals.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional development and continued education.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state and local laws, accreditation standards or regulatory agency requirements that apply to the assigned area of responsibility and ensures compliance with all such laws, regulations and standards.
