About The Position

The Clinical Paramedic reports to the ED Manager and will assist in performing delegated patient care activities, including activities of daily and basic nursing care procedures, as well as identified competencies required in the assigned patient care unit. Requirements

  • Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and CMS regulations.
  • Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty. Wears badge above the waist.
  • Attends department in-services.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
  • Addresses issues directly with those it concerns with a solution in mind.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fires, safety and infection control.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, vision, ethics, goals and core values of the hospital as well as mission statement of the department.
  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience as clinical Paramedic
  • Current paramedic license.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a collaborative management of patient needs and care interventions as delegated by RN or Physician.
  • Reviews patient information for pertinent history and physical findings.
  • Monitors patient vital signs: temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rates, oximetry, and C02 waveform.
  • Demonstrates the ability to assess and evaluate data including: Systematic and ongoing assessment based on patient diagnosis, Diagnostic test results and other clinical information, Response to care/treatment; Behavioral responses; Developmental needs; cultural responses/needs; Educational needs.
  • Demonstrates competency in medication administration.
  • Demonstrates competency in safe administration and accurate documentation of the administration of ordered medication.
  • Demonstrates competency in venipuncture, lab procedures and requirements, and I V placements.
  • Demonstrates competency in lethal rhythm interpretation and intervention.
  • Monitors heart rhythm patterns of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances and notifies RN/physician of changes.
  • Detects and notifies RN and/or other appropriate personnel immediately in the event of life-threatening conditions, including airway inadequacies and dysrhythmias.
  • Prepares patient for transport and interventions, including appropriate equipment.
  • Transports stable patients as delegated by the physician and/or RN.
  • Explains all care procedures to patient/family prior to performing the care.
  • Evaluates patient response to interventions and informs RN & Physician of pertinent changes and findings.
  • Develops a clinical knowledge base for populations served that is age appropriate, culturally specific and diagnosis appropriate.
  • Provides advocacy, protection and support for patient rights, family involvement and patient/family decision making.
  • Prepares room, sterile instruments, equipment, and/or supplies for surgery/treatment. Assists in treatment as assigned.
  • Clerical duties such as computerized order entry, coordinating care with Ancillary departments and coding and billing.
  • May perform other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Keeps white boards in areas updated.
  • Utilizes AIDET.
  • Demonstrates compliance with no pass rule: call lights and phones.
