About The Position

The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist will be responsible for supporting the safe and effective management of oncology and supportive care therapies at our Main and Plaza locations. This role collaborates closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing staff, business office leadership and pharmacy personnel to ensure evidence-based treatment, regulatory compliance, and optimal patient outcomes. Responsibilities include chemotherapy verification, regimen management, patient education, compounding support, adverse event monitoring, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current pharmacist licensure in Alabama.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Exhibits strong adaptability and flexibility in supporting the evolving needs of a community oncology practice, including workflow changes, staffing needs and patient centered care initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum 5 years of oncology pharmacy experience or BCPS preferred.
  • Board Certification in Oncology Pharmacy (BCOP) preferred.
  • Experience with oncology EMR systems and chemotherapy order verification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of NCCN guidelines and oncology supportive care standards preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review and verify chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and supportive care orders for appropriateness, dosing accuracy, and protocol compliance.
  • Assess laboratory values, organ function, allergies, performance status, and treatment history prior to medication verification.
  • Provide clinical support to physicians and nursing staff regarding treatment plans, dose modifications, and toxicity management.
  • Participate in development and maintenance of oncology treatment protocols and order sets.
  • Provide patient counseling and education regarding medications, side effects, administration schedules, and supportive care as needed.
  • Monitor patients for adverse drug reactions and recommend interventions as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with financial counseling and prior authorization teams regarding specialty medications and payer requirements.
  • Partner with pharmacy leadership to advance the clinical, operational, and financial goals of the practice.
  • Participate in quality assurance, accreditation readiness, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support clinical research activities and investigational drug services, if applicable.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record.
