About The Position

At Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute (FCS), we are seeking a Clinical Oncology Pharmacist to join our central services team. This hybrid role supports 9 clinics in Bradenton, Sarasota, North Port, Englewood, and Port Charlotte. The Clinical Oncology Pharmacist will be responsible for delivering best-in-class pharmaceutical support, including therapeutic medication monitoring, protocol management, medication information, education, and performance improvement to ensure safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Working collaboratively with Hematology/Oncology physicians and nursing staff, the pharmacist will provide quality patient care tailored to the patient’s oncologic diagnosis, prescribed treatment, age group, and other identified needs. This role involves coordinating the drug therapy process for the Hematology/Oncology patient population, which may include drug selection (incorporating genetic/biomarker testing), drug information, dosing, monitoring, outcomes management, and retrospective drug utilization monitoring and compliance. The position also supports the development of new regimen builds and inquiries.

Requirements

  • College degree in pharmacy required, PharmD preferred.
  • Licensed pharmacist, required
  • Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP), preferred
  • Valid state Driver’s License for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings.
  • Compliance with the company Driver Safety Operations and Motor Vehicle Records Check Policy is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a clinical pharmacist working in a hospital, home health, community oncology, or other infusion center.
  • Minimum requirement may be waived based on intensity of prior experience (i.e., completion of PGY-2 Oncology Residency program)
  • Critical thinking skills including solid problem solving, analysis, decision-making, planning, time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be detailed oriented with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Developed interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, diplomacy, tact, conflict management, delegation skills, and diversity awareness.
  • Ability to work effectively with sensitive and confidential material and sometimes emotionally charged matters.
  • Good command of the English language.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely consultation services to physicians, nurses, pharmacy staff, and other members of the organization.
  • Delivers up-to-date drug information on new approved therapies in the oncology space as well as other biologic therapies.
  • Applies current pharmacological and biopharmaceutical principles for the selection and use of drug products in a clinical setting to meet the therapeutic needs of a patient.
  • Provides senior clinical support and education to other members of the department in correlation with operational projects and objectives.
  • Reviews drug utilization reports alongside other corresponding data to identify areas of need or improvement as it applies to appropriate usage and best health outcomes.
  • Develops action plans to address issues of under/over utilization according to approved indications, NCCN Guidelines, formulary, etc.
  • Develops metrics related to pharmacy data, clinical data, cost data, and functional data that can be applied to improve clinical outcomes, cost control, and overall system usage.
  • Assesses changes or need to make changes to improve care of oncology patients or for a topic for advancing the pharmacy profession or oncology pharmacy.
  • Contributes to the Pharmacy Operations team and applicable committees by providing clinical leadership.
  • Participates in local, state, or national pharmacy organizations and further implements improvement strategies that align with the goals of the department.
  • Assists with medication order set development to assure safe, complete, and accurate medication ordering and administration and appropriate medication use.
  • Works collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to implement and maintain continuous quality improvement strategies that mitigate the risk of drug errors.
  • Executes project activities in accordance with established schedules, milestones, and processes to ensure that all projects are well scoped, well documented, and completed on time and within budget of the project in conjunction with the Director of Pharmacy Operations.
  • Develops and manages project documentation from planning through final project implementation.
  • Ensures all appropriate stakeholders are identified and communicated throughout the project management life cycle.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
