About The Position

Responsible for scheduling, insurance verification, prior authorization validation and registering patient accounts with a focus on hospital reimbursement. Interpret and ensure compliance with payer guidelines for accurate input. Works in tandem with the clinical staff, checks vitals, med runner and assists with patient needs. Assist patients with drug replacement/assistance programs and insurance inquiries. Assist to resolve issues and/or concerns.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent.
  • One year's experience in a hospital, insurance or office environment preferred.
  • Experience with automated systems required.
  • Prior experience involving public contact.
  • Clinical experience.
  • Ability to interpret and generate written correspondence utilizing proper grammar, spelling and composition skills.
  • Knowledge of Payer guidelines required.
  • Computer knowledge required.
  • Ability to operate office equipment, such as copy machines, fax machine and printers.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills essential.
  • Ability to pass basic job related competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical terminology preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling patients and maintaining the schedule on a daily basis for multiple service lines.
  • Performing a total assessment of patient accounts to determine verification of insurance and benefits.
  • Entering complete and thorough benefit information, including obtaining required authorizations and patient estimates.
  • Interpreting and ensuring compliance with payer guidelines for accurate input, maintaining a minimal error rate.
  • Screening patient accounts and taking appropriate action when benefits are exhausted or certification is not approved, referring to the Financial Counselor or Eligibility vendor.
  • Notifying patients of insurance issues or potential unexpected patient balances.
  • Assisting patients with applying for Drug Replacement/Assistance programs.
  • Verifying demographic information and discussing financial obligations during the registration process.
  • Explaining pertinent documents and hospital policies.
  • Working with financial counselors, personnel from other departments, physicians, and their office staff.
  • Handling patient and insurance inquiries and assisting to resolve issues and/or concerns.
  • Maintaining clinical competencies for checking vitals and other clinical responsibilities.
  • Serving as a runner to pick up medicine and other supplies.
  • Resolving issues and/or concerns amicably in a timely manner, involving PFS or Nursing Leaders when needed.
  • Promoting and demonstrating excellent customer service at all times with internal and external customers.
  • Communicating effectively and expressing ideas clearly, actively listening and following appropriate channels of communication.
  • Adapting and responding to change.
  • Using time clock accurately and being punctual on a consistent basis.
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude in all assigned tasks and towards others.
  • Following the "Call-In" policy by notifying PFS Leader of absence.
  • Adhering to hospital and department dress code and maintaining a professional appearance.

  • Attending scheduled departmental meetings.
  • Performing special duties and projects as assigned.

  • Attending required corporate integrity and compliance training and education programs.
