About The Position

This position offers the opportunity to broaden nursing skills and explore new clinical specialties within the Irvine Telemetry team at Hoag Hospital. Nurses will have the opportunity to train across multiple high acuity specialties, including Neurosurgical care, Stroke management and neuro monitoring, Cardiovascular surgical specialty, Sub-ICU level care (including ventilator support), Chemotherapy administration, and Complex surgical care. This is an ideal opportunity for those considering a future in critical care to build a foundation. As part of the Irvine Telemetry team, the Clinical Nurse provides direct inpatient nursing care in accordance with the California Nurse Practice Act and supports the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. This role involves serving the community by utilizing research and evidence-based outcomes and collaborating with team members to provide the highest level of care.

Requirements

  • Active, Current California RN License.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accredited from American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification accredited from American Heart Association
  • Successful completion of an EKG course or equivalent.
  • Requires and Maintains NIHSS certification 365 days from the day of hire as designated by Manager.
  • Must possess at least two (2) years of Clinical Nurse experience in a hospital setting.
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
  • All Clinical Nurse I's are required to have current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
  • Irvine Telemetry: ACLS; NIHSS certification required within 365 days of hire as designated by Manager.

  • Previous Telemetry and/or high acuity experience.
  • Additional skills and knowledge of various equipment and software may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and promptly respond to changes.
  • Administer medications, including cardiac drips, and monitor therapeutic and adverse effects.
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on care plan, medications, procedures, and discharge instructions.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices to ensure safe, high-quality care.
  • Participate in unit-based initiatives to improve patient outcomes and enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Assess and document a complete physical assessment, nursing interventions, and teaching and discharge needs for patients assigned to each shift, utilizing documentation guidelines, Standards of Care and Pathway goals.
  • Communicate changes in the patient's condition to the Charge Nurse/Supervisor and the physician directing care, as well as pertinent information at shift report using the patient Plan of Care (POC).
  • Provide continuity of care through the implementation and utilization of the POC.
  • Respond to emergency situations in a timeframe appropriate to the needs of each patient.
  • Administer medications and intravenous therapy with the ability to assess the appropriate indication of dosing and effects of the medication administered.
  • Assess the educational ability/level for the patient, incorporating available educational material into patient/significant other teaching and documenting understanding in the patient record.
