About The Position

The Clinical Nurse II – Perioperative role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in a Perioperative unit. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned. Additionally, the Clinical Nurse II meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Ladder program respective to his/her department. The Clinical Nurse III demonstrates a commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting education projects and/or supplemental activities.

Requirements

  • BSN or BSN program started within one year of hire date and degree attained within two years of starting the program (for Magnet designated facilities).
  • Successful completion of an ECG course or equivalency (for units with telemetry monitoring).
  • Experience in cardiac telemetry (for Heart Catheterization Lab).
  • Two years of nursing experience with at least one year in a critical care specialty (for Heart Catheterization Lab).
  • Successful completion of an ECG test (for Heart Catheterization Lab).
  • Experience in orthopedics (preferred for HOI-Operating Room, HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
  • Successful completion of ECG Test (for HOI-Perioperative Holding and HOI-Recovery Room/PACU only).
  • One year recent OR experience in an acute care hospital or recent completion of the Hoag Perioperative Training Program (for Operating Room).
  • Minimum one year nursing experience in a perioperative setting (for Pre-Admission Screening).
  • One year nursing experience in a perioperative setting in an acute care hospital or an outpatient surgery center (for Pre Post Unit).
  • One year recent PACU experience in an acute care hospital or critical care unit (for Recovery Room/PACU).
  • Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
  • Current BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA) upon hire.
  • ACLS (for Heart Catheterization Lab, HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
  • ACLS and PALS (PALS required within 90 days of hire) (for Irvine Recovery Room/PACU and Irvine Pre Post Unit, Recovery Room/PACU).
  • ACLS (for Pre Post Unit nurses hired before 10/1/2025).
  • ACLS, PALS within 90 days of hire (for Pre Post Unit nurses hired after 10/1/2025).

Nice To Haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • Experience in orthopedics preferred (for HOI-Operating Room, HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
  • One year recent PACU experience in an acute care hospital or critical care unit preferred (for HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
  • PCCN (for Heart Vascular Institute).
  • CNOR or CPAN (for HOI-Perioperative Holding, HOI-Recovery Room/PACU).
  • CNOR (for Operating Room).
  • Specialty certification (for Pre Post Unit).
  • ASPAN certification (for Recovery Room/PACU).
