About The Position

To provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families. This role involves clinical advancement, utilizing systematic planning, appropriate methods, and timely exchange of information with the multidisciplinary team and patient/family to coordinate care. The nurse will demonstrate the ability to focus on and manage multiple patient needs and aspects of care, actively communicating with the care team to plan patient care and utilizing available resources to problem-solve and determine the most effective approach to action. Clinical judgment and decision-making are key, using the nursing process and a critical thinking approach to provide patient care that incorporates the mind, body, and spirit; is individualized, goal-directed, and consistent with current standards of safety. The nurse will identify actual/potential problems for which the patient is at risk, continuously evaluate interventions and care, and adjust the plan as patient and family needs change. They will identify the need for referrals based on initial and ongoing assessments and evaluation, collaborating with the patient, family, and other team members to develop a comprehensive plan of care. Prioritizing demand for resources and collaborating with others to meet individualized patient needs is essential. The role also includes acting as a preceptor/teacher in guiding other nurses on how to apply the nursing process with a particular unit population and implementing safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients with complex needs due to multi-system disease and/or complications of treatment. Documentation per department/entity guidelines of care and policies and procedures is required, reflecting a critical thinking/problem-oriented approach to patient issues. Clinical leadership involves delegating/assigning and communicating expectations for care delivery processes to each member of the team, with knowledge of what can and cannot be delegated. The nurse is responsible for delegation and follows through to ensure delegated tasks are complete, analyzing each situation and determining appropriate levels of supervision before delegating. They will assess the appropriateness of physician orders and question physicians when appropriate, help coworkers improve performance, offer assistance and support, and provide positive feedback. The nurse will provide unit-specific information to students, floats, travelers/registry personnel and document appropriately, provide incidental teaching to team members, and look for and apply ways to improve work processes and systems. Offering and accepting constructive feedback/criticism in a non-judgmental, positive, and confidential manner, and seeking out opportunities to assist and support coworkers are also important aspects of this role. Establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family, anticipating problems, and taking actions to enhance the quality of nurse/patient/family interaction are crucial. Analyzing social/cultural variables and adapting nursing interventions to meet diverse needs, serving as a patient advocate, and providing age-appropriate patient education are also key responsibilities. Coordinating transfer and discharge planning and teaching in collaboration with other members of the health care team, and collaborating with other team members to identify, develop, and/or revise patient education materials are also part of the role. Demonstrating flexibility to teaching based on assessment of learner's needs and the integration of adult learning principles is expected.

Requirements

  • Graduate of nursing school.
  • 1 Year clinical experience (RNs with less than 12 months experience will complete the new grad requirements).
  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Various-Employee provides certificate -REQUIRED
