About The Position

UW Medical Center-Northwest has an outstanding opportunity for an Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). The CNS will be our Subject Matter Expert on all matters surrounding oncology care. This is a highly visible position, serving as an expert clinical resource for RNs and other healthcare staff. The CNS will work with key stakeholders, shaping the way we approach cancer care. Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Active licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in Washington State
  • 3-5 years of oncology-related nursing experience
  • An active chemotherapy administration certification

Responsibilities

  • Maintains subject matter expertise on chemotherapy administration, chemotherapy certification, vascular access care, and care management of inpatient and ambulatory oncology patients
  • Develops evidence-based protocols, promotes clinical standards, and evaluates outcomes
  • Develops collaborative, collegial relationships with leadership and staff at UW Medical Center-Northwest, UW Medical Center-Montlake, and Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center
  • Remains current on evidence-based research and literature, and brings evidence-based information to the clinical setting
  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates oncology-related educational offerings, including staff education days, online learning modules, and annual competencies
  • Tracks quality indicator data and evaluates quality outcomes
  • Oversees house-wide initiatives related to oncology care, including the evaluation of new medical products
  • Fosters collegial relations with CNS staff across our campus and in other hospitals or agencies
  • Contributes clinical expertise and nursing perspectives to committees and workgroups, including Sepsis, Education Council, Local Practice Council, and Professional Practice Council
  • Leads or co-leads projects and initiatives that impact oncology patient outcomes
