About The Position

Nurse specialists are a special breed. They are able to provide all the skill-based, compassionate care you’d expect from a nurse while also thinking outside the box. Our clinical nurse specialist interns assist in the diagnosis and treatment of illness and assist in the delivery of evidence-based nursing interventions. They work as part of a team to provide theory and evidence-based care to attain health goals. They take nursing one step further and constantly strive to improve surgical care. With 12 ministries and access points across Indiana and Illinois, Franciscan Health is one of the largest Catholic health care systems in the Midwest. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's degree CNS program
  • Must maintain continued enrollment and complete CNS program within 3 years to remain eligible for the CNS Intern position.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - State Licensing Board
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) - American Heart Association
  • Unit Specific Certifications - Franciscan Alliance As Required by Unit
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association As Required by Unit
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - American Heart Association As Required by Unit
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - The American Academy of Pediatrics As Required by Unit

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a reliable source of information on the latest evidence.
  • Establish methods to evaluate and document nursing interventions.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary teams to integrate the nursing perspective into a comprehensive plan of care.
  • Provide consultations on risks, benefits, and outcomes of healthcare regimens to promote informed decision-making.
  • Assist staff in developing critical thinking and clinical judgment.
  • Create an environment that stimulates continuous self-learning, reflective practice, and demonstration of responsibility and accountability.
  • Work under the guidance of the CNS mentor to identify and prioritize nursing care needs for select patients.
  • Evaluate the impact of nursing interventions on patient outcomes.
