About The Position

The Clinical Nurse (RN) reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional nurse is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care across the care continuum, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The Clinical Nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse practices in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. IU Arnett’s Progressive Care Unit is a 27-bed non-surgical progressive care unit that includes IU Arnett’s Rapid Response Bed. The PCU team provides compassionate, high-quality care to patients with complex medical and cardiac conditions. The team also includes a Paramedic who assists with patient transport to and from procedures and diagnostic testing Monday through Friday. Patient populations include but are not limited to: NSTEMI, Cardiogenic shock, Pulmonary embolism (pre-intervention), Cardiac catheterization patients, Post-CABG and open-heart surgery recovery, Heart failure, Respiratory failure, Sepsis, Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), Atrial fibrillation ablation, Watchman and other percutaneous intervention patients.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license
  • Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience (Exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO))
  • Additional advanced life support certifications may be required per unit or department specialty according to patient care policies
  • Cross-training opportunities to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Responsibilities

  • Provide and coordinate competent, evidence-based care across the care continuum, including assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Participate in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Patient care assessment and monitoring
  • Assistance with bedside procedures including central line placement, cardioversion, and EGD
  • End-of-life care and patient and family advocacy
