The Clinical Operating Room Nurse provides perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures while adhering to departmental philosophies, policies, and professional nursing standards. The successful candidate may also be required to work in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) as needed to support operational requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in nursing
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the operating room
  • Member in good standing of the O.I.I.Q
  • Bilingual (French and English) spoken and written

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates general knowledge of nursing care, including principles, standards, and techniques in the operating room
  • Provides perioperative care to patients undergoing surgery, minimizing associated risks
  • Plans and participates in patient care as a circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or charge nurse, ensuring safe and high-quality care
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical and surgical principles as well as aseptic techniques when acting in the role of circulating nurse, scrub nurse, or charge nurse
  • Applies aseptic technique principles when handling surgical instruments, sterile equipment, and supplies
  • Ensures the operating room is ready to receive the patient
  • Ensures all preoperative standards are met for each patient
  • Ensures patient safety and comfort during transport and upon arrival in the operating room
  • Contributes to a calm and safe induction for each patient
  • Ensures competent and attentive care is provided to each patient during the intraoperative phase
  • Ensures all postoperative care standards are met for each patient
  • Identifies nursing care issues and assists in resolving them
  • Ensures all perioperative care is documented in the patient’s care plan and meets each patient’s surgical needs
