About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Clinical Nurse Manager, Registered Nurse (RN) for our Vascular Intermediate Care Unit (Stepdown). The Clinical Nurse Manager has overall accountability for the daily operations of one or more clinical areas. They supervise patient care services staff, ensure excellent patient safety and quality outcomes, and focus on extraordinary patient/family experience. This role is responsible for interviewing, hiring, developing, and retaining staff to build a highly reliable team. The manager demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills to achieve unit and corporate goals. They also assist in the development and monitoring of the unit budget, coordinate purchasing and payroll processes, and serve as a clinical resource to team members. The 9 Kaufman unit is a 24-bed stepdown intermediate care unit specializing in vascular surgery, telemetry, and renal/pancreas transplant patients. It is part of the Surgical Specialty Team at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital (SNGH). Staffing includes RNs, LPNs, NCPs (nursing care partners), UAs (unit ambassadors), and CSAs (clinical support associates). Vascular surgeries include aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, femoral bypass surgeries, and amputations. Nurses on this unit are specially trained and can obtain PCCN certification. All beds are monitored, and the unit cares for a variety of patients with telemetry needs, offering extensive learning and skill development opportunities. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Nursing, BSN (Required) or MSN (Preferred)
  • Registered nursing License (Required)
  • BLS required within 90 days of hire
  • 2 years experience in a support leadership RN position, i.e. Unit Coordinator, Team Lead, or other like position may be accepted in lieu of 1 year formal management experience.
  • Meets any requirements defined by specific specialty.
