About The Position

This state-of-the-art center provides advanced specialty and routine care with an emphasis on patient satisfaction and a focus on medical advancement. The Surgical Services department is a high-volume, high-acuity unit within a Level II Trauma Center, featuring 27 operating rooms at Main Campus and a Surgery Center, along with a dedicated vascular lab and cystoscopy suite. This department supports a broad and complex surgical case mix, including General Surgery (with da Vinci and SP robotic and bariatric programs), Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Cardiac and Vascular, Gynecology, and Plastics. As Clinical Nurse Manager, you will oversee a fast-paced perioperative environment with advanced technology, diverse specialties, and strong interdisciplinary collaboration. Operations will involve ensuring appropriate staffing levels and skill mix, managing OR scheduling and staff productivity, fostering a positive culture, and mentoring emerging leaders. You will lead clinical and operational performance, drive quality, safety, and patient outcomes, and partner with surgeons, anesthesia, and executive leadership. This is an opportunity to lead within a large, diverse surgical platform, gain exposure to advanced surgical technology and specialty programs, and work in a high-visibility role with impact on department strategy and performance within a collaborative environment with strong physician partnerships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience Required
  • Two years of demonstrated informal leadership experience for internal candidates, which may include roles such as Charge Nurse, Lead Nurse, or participation in Shared Governance Councils Required
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) license Required
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Required
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification Required
  • One year of formal nursing leadership experience (external candidates) Required

  • Maintains 24-hour accountability for leadership and management of a designated patient care unit.
  • Promoting high-quality nursing care, cost-effective resource utilization, staff professional development, and a Patient- and Family-Centered Care culture.
  • Ensures the safe and effective delivery of patient care while maintaining compliance with all regulatory, administrative, and clinical standards, as well as organizational policies and procedures.
  • Leverages data, technology, and evidence-based practices to drive decision-making and proactively mitigate risk.
  • Fosters a desirable and supportive work environment that enables staff and the organization to meet or exceed strategic goals.
