About The Position

As a partner for clinical transformation and in collaboration with System and Departmental Nurse Leadership and other clinical and physician leaders, the Clinical Nursing Informatics Program Manager, manages ITS and informatics staff performance in informatics initiatives with an emphasis on information technology and services to support nursing and interdisciplinary care partners in the areas of nursing practice, clinical applications, clinical/administrative decision-making, research and quality improvement initiatives, education, and resource management. He/she combines knowledge of patient care, informatics concepts, and change management to effectively represent the information and knowledge needs and requirements of healthcare professionals and patients and to promote safe, effective, and efficient use of information technology in clinical settings. Scope may include acute care, ambulatory care, and post-acute care settings in designated areas of service. The CNI Program Manager is responsible to work across functions with peers in other groups to ensure collaboration for shared goals and works with senior management and other peers on strategy development and execution planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Clinical Informatics or other clinical discipline is required
  • Active Registered Nurse license required
  • Relevant job-related certifications with EPIC application certification or proficiency within 90 days of hire is required.
  • minimum 6 years clinical experience in primary clinical discipline with primary duties working with clinical information systems within a healthcare setting required.
  • Must have effective working knowledge and use of Microsoft Office Suite of applications.
  • Must be able to type effectively and efficiently take accurate meeting notes.
  • Must have familiarity with Network, personal computer, communications and database systems.
  • Must have familiarity with data privacy practices in healthcare.
  • Excellent relationship building and professional communication skills with internal and external customers;
  • Demonstrates ability to organize and lead functional teams and coordinates work to effectively accomplish project goals;
  • Liaises with customers, other ITS staff and vendors for design, planning, implementation and problem resolution using effective communication and appropriate follow-up;
  • Sets and maintains goals, timelines and commitments, demonstrating proven attention to detail and high level of organization and accuracy.
  • Anticipates internal and/or external business challenges and/or regulatory issues; recommends process, product or service improvements;
  • Provides innovative solutions to complex issues.
  • Communicates effectively, coordinates multiple duties simultaneously, able to independently solve Innovation Service related issues.
  • Understands and comprehends interactions between clinical areas and their roles within the hospital and organization;

Responsibilities

  • Manages the delivery of SIH clinical systems strategy in collaboration with other nursing/clinical and medical informatics and operational leaders to promote excellence in patient care, improved operational and business outcomes, and staff satisfaction.
  • Facilitates the SIH vision for nursing informatics at the system and local level to promote improved data acquisition and use in the continuous improvement of clinical and operational outcomes.
  • Maintains relationships with key external business partners and other senior industry leaders in order to leverage best practices, evaluate emerging technologies, and distribute knowledge internally to inform plans and strategies.
  • Works with vendors to proactively identify local needs and/or enhancement of clinical information system solutions to meet SIH business needs. Works with ITS Strategy and Business Development in researching and evaluating the effectiveness of technologies and documentation that impact clinical users.
  • Coordinates EHR change across platforms and departments for impact, and anticipation of needs, increased patient and end user satisfaction, safety and outcomes
  • Acts as a change agent working with nursing and clinical leadership teams in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of overall informatics strategies that support quality, patient safety, and risk management in the support of professional practice that drives adherence to system standards.
  • Serves as a informatics consultant at the system and facility levels, communicating nursing and health care trends and issues at the local, regional, state, and/or national level.
  • Incorporates research and evidence-based knowledge into informatics practice
  • Collaborates to identify educational opportunities and ensures clear and adequate communication of team activities and ensuring use of standardized educational materials.
  • Assists with the coordination of end user go live and ongoing support of new processes and system use.
  • Advocates for ethical decision-making on behalf of the public and staff.
  • Develops an environment for ethical decision-making at the organization/system level.
  • Trains mentors, motivates, retains, and develops a team of first-rate professionals to perform the responsibilities of nursing/clinical informaticists.
  • Provides mentorship in informatics for service area-based informaticists new in their role.
  • Assists to adhere to budgeting and expenditures for Nursing/Clinical Informatics service area services.
  • Supports local informatics leadership and program management for the collaborative development, implementation, support and on-going optimization of SIH clinical information systems, ensuring the needs and priorities of end users are represented and ITS demand management/governance processes are respected.
  • Maintains current knowledge of major clinical information systems and electronic health record applications.
  • Assists in coordinating training of end users as needed.
  • Manages interdisciplinary teams to develop clinical data/documentation and workflow standardization to be used enterprise-wide.
  • Facilitates the model for managing nursing/clinical requests for changes to clinical information systems; with Directors, Clinical and Medical Informatics, coordinates area clinical systems governance activities.
  • Promotes, guides, and routinely updates, with the Business Continuity team, the downtime and disaster recovery processes, policies and procedures and participates in disaster drills for clinical applications.
  • Understands and demonstrates effective skills in documenting, evaluating and prioritizing clinical users’ requested system improvements.
  • Ensures timely follow-up communication with customers regarding issue resolution.
  • Acts a change agent, assisting customers with the dynamic nature of clinical information systems
