About The Position

The Hematology unit provides comprehensive care to patients with hematologic malignancies such as leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma. In addition, the unit also specializes in managing patients undergoing CAR T therapy and those participating in clinical research trials. The unit is equipped to diagnose, treat, and manage various blood-related cancers through a multidisciplinary approach. This opportunity is for full-time, 12-hour shifts (3 shifts per week), and designated for the night shift. This position is eligible for a night shift differential up to $6.50/hr and weekend differential up to $15.60/hr. We are looking for passionate, skilled nurses who can think critically, act decisively, and provide compassionate support to patients and families. Your ability to effectively communicate, document, and integrate cultural, psychosocial, and spiritual needs into care plans will be key to delivering exceptional care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of three (3) years related experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Card through American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients with hematologic malignancies, including physical exams, review of medical history, and assessment of symptoms such as fatigue, bruising, and bleeding.
  • Monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and response to treatment to detect any changes in patient status.
  • Administer chemotherapy and other systemic treatments according to established protocols and guidelines, ensuring accurate dosing, monitoring for potential side effects, and providing supportive care to minimize treatment-related complications.
  • Assess and manage symptoms associated with hematologic malignancies and their treatments, such as pain, nausea, anemia, and neutropenia.
  • Administer medications, provide comfort measures, and educate patients on self-care techniques to improve symptom control and quality of life.
  • Educate patients and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, and potential side effects.
  • Provide information on managing treatment-related symptoms, adhering to medication regimens, and accessing support services such as counseling, nutrition therapy, and financial assistance.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients with hematologic malignancies.
  • Coordinate appointments, diagnostic tests, and consultations with specialists, ensuring seamless continuity of care throughout the treatment process.
