About The Position

The Clinical Nurse II - Critical Care role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act for assigned patients in a critical care unit including Neuro ICU, CCU, and Sub ICU. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Maintains a working knowledge of departmental and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. In addition to the above responsibilities, the Clinical Nurse II is involved in Hoag Committee/Council with at least 50% attendance, communicates quarterly to UPC (Unit Practice Council) on committee/council work, and completes three supplemental activities a year.

Requirements

BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of the starting the BSN program.
One year nursing experience required.
Successfully pass ECG test required only for units with telemetry monitoring.
Successful completion of a basic Critical Care Course or equivalency required prior to clinical rotation (for CCU, ICU, Neuro, Surgical Neuro ICU).
Successful completion of ECG test required (for CCU, ICU, Neuro, Surgical Neuro ICU).
Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification (for CCU, ICU, Neuro).
Successful completion of an ECG course or equivalency required (for Sub ICU).
Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.
Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
ACLS certification prior to clinical rotation.
NIHSS required (for Neuro ICU, Irvine ICU).
Completes series of six (6) neuroscience classes within one (1) year of hire (for Neuro ICU).

Nice To Haves

BSN preferred.
Critical Care and Open Heart experience preferred (for CCU).
Critical Care experience preferred (for ICU, Surgical Neuro ICU).
Previous Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care experience, previous sheath pull experience, previous fem-stop and closure device experience preferred (for Neuro, Sub ICU).
IABP, CRT Certification, and CCRN Certification (for CCU).
CCRN / CNRN &/or SCRN (for Neuro ICU).
PCCN &/or CCRN (for Sub ICU).
