About The Position

Reporting to the Cancer Center supervisor, the Clinical Nurse II provides patient care to an assigned group of patients in the Cancer Center. The incumbent conducts the appropriate established nursing interventions, assessments, and care to patients while undergoing testing, actively determining the needs of the patient and family consistent with the physician’s orders. Incorporates the psycho-motor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other utilizing knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation. Accurately obtains and documents data per protocol guidelines and ensures the completion of research objectives in a safe and efficient manner. Assists in patient research accrual by varied projects and reviewing patient schedules against available protocols. Acts as a role model to students and Clinical Nurse's new to the unit. Functions as a (PCC) Patient Care Coordinator as requested by the supervisor/manager.

Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal, multi-tasking, and problem-soling skills
  • One year of Oncology experience or one year of MedSurg experience and completion of OCN Cancer Basics class
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must possess a current basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) card
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Knowledge of physical, social, psychological, and nursing sciences
  • Knowledge and practice of body mechanics
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing research priorities
  • Experience working with children, adults, and geriatric patients
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Excellent pediatric and adult phlebotomy and IV skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of infection control techniques
  • Current chemotherapy/biotherapy card required within 3 months of hire
  • Current California RN license
  • Current BLS certification
  • Chemotherapy Certified or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire
  • All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse populations
  • Ability to work effectively with colleagues, physicians and others as part of a care team
  • Ability to travel between the Medical Center in Orange and the Irvine campus
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization
