About The Position

This position is for a Clinical Nurse (RN/Registered Nurse) at Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, within the Emergency Services department. Duke Regional Hospital is the second largest of Duke Health's four hospitals, offering a comprehensive range of medical, surgical, and diagnostic services. Emergency Services is an 89-bed department that cares for patients with acute diagnoses such as ischemic strokes, non-specific chest pains, and acute dyspnea. The department includes the Emergency Department, Behavioral Health Emergency Department, and Clinical Decision Unit. Duke Health is a Magnet organization, and its nurses are recognized for their excellence. The role involves providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care, utilizing the nursing process, and participating in the DUHS Professional Practice model. Nurses are encouraged to advance their careers through bonuses for certifications and education, and the department offers self-scheduling in eight-week blocks. New graduate nurses are automatically enrolled in a 12-month paid Nurse Residency Program.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher), Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program is required.
  • Current registration with North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse OR current compact RN licensure to practice in the state of North Carolina required.
  • BLS (or higher) certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
  • Preceptorship in a ED or clinical hours in an ED.
  • EMT or Paramedic experience.
  • Professional specialty certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities.
  • Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department.
  • Planning and providing advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients guided by the DUHS Professional Practice model.
  • Participating in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects or other health related projects as assigned.
  • Providing nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Adhering to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies.
  • Actively participating in outstanding customer service and accepting responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
