About The Position

Shepherd Center is a renowned rehabilitation facility with a rich history of providing exceptional care for complex neurological conditions. We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Expert to join our team. This role functions as an expert clinician, educator, consultant, and researcher, focusing on evidence-based practices for brain, spinal, and other neurologic disorders. The Clinical Nurse Expert will collaborate with management and leadership to ensure high-quality nursing practices, participate in hospital-wide and program committees, and support collaborative practices across nursing and therapy. This position also involves managing nurse educators and PCT educators, serving as a lead nurse planner for continuing education, and ensuring coordinated patient care. Key responsibilities include assessing educational needs, developing and implementing competency programs, providing guidance on high-risk concepts, communicating clinical education needs, facilitating the development of educational materials, coordinating nursing orientation, managing documentation and audits, and promoting excellent customer service. The role also requires participation in educational conferences, performing literature reviews, serving on committees, and maintaining professional growth and certifications.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • RN with Master’s Degree in Nurse Education (professional experience in the field of interest accepted)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Certified Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN), MS Certified Specialist, MS Certified Nurse, Pain Management Specialty - American Nurses Credentialing Center, Certified Urologic Registered Nurse (CURN), or Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) required after three years from date of hire.
  • 3-5 years of clinical experience in either Med/Surg or Rehab
  • Exceptional verbal and nonverbal communication skills

  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills
  • Completes orientation and initial assessment of competency successfully by determined due date.
  • Completes mandatory education and annual competency assessment requirements by determined due date.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Nurse Educator experience preferred or other advance practice nurse certifications in neurology.

Responsibilities

  • Manages and oversees evidence-based practices for brain, spinal and other neurologic disorders.
  • Works with other managers and directors assuring nursing practices are of quality to the center and to the program.
  • Participates within hospital-wide and program committees to enhance best practices.
  • Works with the CNO, Nurse Managers, and Program Directors to support collaborative practices in nursing and therapy.
  • Manages nurse educators and PCT educators to support implementation of best practices.
  • Serves as a lead nurse planner to fulfill ANCC Provider Unit requirements for continuing education.
  • Ensures coordinated care for all patients in assigned unit.
  • Assesses educational needs, develops education/competency programs, to include orientation plans, that meet the needs of learner and develops knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care.
  • Recognizes high risk concepts/skills and provides guidance and resources to ensure safe, effective nursing care.
  • Communicates and coordinates clinical education needs to leadership.
  • Coordinates any center-wide needs in conjunction with the Nursing Education Committee.
  • Facilitates the development of educational materials (staff/patients, as applicable to assigned unit).
  • Coordinates and implements classroom and clinical nursing orientation for assigned program.
  • Coordinates student placement, orients students, and organizes preceptorships for nursing students, as applicable to assigned unit.
  • Organizes and/or facilitates program specific patient/family education activities, if required by assigned unit.
  • Manages documentation and audits, provides action plans for areas needing improvement.
  • Communicates within the Center and the community at large in a manner that promotes excellent customer service and the professional sharing of information.
  • Participates in educational conferences and presentation for the discipline and the educational program.
  • Performs literature reviews to ensure nursing practice conforms to most recent evidence.
  • Serves on and contributes to committees, task forces or focus groups.
  • Serves as either Accredited Provider Program Director or Nurse Planner to fulfill ANCC Provider Unit requirements for continuing education.
  • Maintains certification(s) and professional growth.
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with Center and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility.
