About The Position

Bloodwork's is hiring a Clinical Nurse Educator for a part-time role (approximately 20 hours per week). This position involves providing clinical expertise and education to medical and nursing staff involved in collecting cord blood donations in hospitals, as well as to Bloodwork's internal staff. The role also focuses on growing the Cord Blood program, developing customer relations, and promoting and supporting cord blood donor recruitment. Key responsibilities include developing and delivering training programs, assessing training needs, creating competency assessment programs, providing consultation, acting as a liaison with external customers, participating in audits, collecting data, ensuring contract compliance, and developing/revising Standard Operating Procedures. The role also involves developing and conducting educational presentations for potential donors and the public, and assisting with donor recruitment initiatives, with a focus on minority recruitment. Duties may include providing information on cord blood options, recruiting and screening donors, obtaining consent, collecting data, and compiling charts.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Current status as a registered nurse (State of Washington)
  • Bachelor's degree in science, health-related field, or education.
  • Demonstrated expertise in training adult learners, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Active Washington State Registered Nurse License.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in OB/GYN practice
  • Prior experience in blood or tissue banking
  • Reading and writing Spanish is desirable.
  • Familiarity within racial minority communities is highly desirable.
  • Public speaking abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and maintain training that accommodates diverse learning styles and delivery methods (e.g., classroom, online).
  • Assess the Cord Blood program's training needs for internal staff and external nursing and medical staff at partner hospitals and medical centers.
  • Develop, deliver, and maintain the donor coordinator and collector competency assessment programs.
  • Ensure training and competency assessment programs meet all applicable regulatory and infrastructure requirements.
  • Provide consultation and expertise to internal staff and external nursing and medical staff in our partner hospitals and medical centers.
  • Act as the first point of contact and liaison with all external customers and collector partners.
  • Participate in audits, site visits, and other regulatory events as required.
  • Assist in determining and collecting useful metrics and other reporting data related to training activities, competency, and collections.
  • Ensure compliance with contracts and letters of agreement for the collection of umbilical cord blood units.
  • Develop and revise Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Help develop and conduct educational presentations for potential donors and the public, and in-services for professional staff working with expectant parents to promote cord blood donation.
  • Assist in developing, delivering, and maintaining the collector's annual training programs.
  • Provide information on cord blood options to potential participants; recruit and interview potential donors; obtain informed consent; perform donor screenings; collect data; and compile charts.
  • Initiate and assist in the development and implementation of donor recruitment initiatives, with an emphasis on minority donor recruitment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
