About The Position

The Clinical Nurse Educator – Ambulatory is responsible for coordinating, planning, executing, evaluating and providing education activities and orientation programs to clinical staff in the ambulatory care setting. In collaboration with the Ambulatory Clinical Education and Quality Manager, and AMG leadership, the Clinical Educator monitors the clinical care of patients and provides clinical support to improve patient care and patient outcomes. The primary focus of this position is the advancement of expert clinical practice in the ambulatory setting. Serves as liaison and facilitator for clinical programs (CMA, LPN, etc.), in collaboration with community partners and schools. Serves as a resource to leadership, staff and preceptors in the areas of clinical process, clinical knowledge and skills. Updates and facilitates clinical competencies, policies and procedures, and supports special projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Nursing required
  • Current and valid Registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or from a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia required
  • Minimum of 3 years recent experience as a registered nurse or adult nursing educator required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred or obtain in 24 months upon hire
  • Specialty certification related to ambulatory care preferred
  • Ambulatory care experience preferred

  • Establishes programs to promote the advancement of professional development
  • Supports clinical staff in preparing abstracts, slide presentations, and posters for internal events and/or national presentations
  • Provides leadership, education, guidance, and support for Shared Governance Council, Clinical Leads, and members of the Leadership Team regarding clinical professional development programs and initiatives
  • Oversees all education for assigned units to support the application of evidence-based practice and utilizes innovative strategies to build culture of excellence with reliable care
  • Maintain partnerships with local high schools, community colleges, technical schools, universities, and workforce development organizations to support clinical career exploration and entry into ambulatory care roles (e.g., CMA, LPN, RN).
  • Collaborate with internal leaders (clinic managers, service line leaders, HR) to align pipeline activities with current and future workforce needs.
  • Coordinate and support clinical exposure opportunities, including job shadowing, clinical observations, internships, externships, and precepted learning experiences, in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Regularly evaluates program content and utilizes recent hire feedback in program development.
  • Provides evidence of specific outcomes directly related to educational offerings and activities.
  • Assist with real-time auditing and offer coaching.
  • Assists with creating auditing and evaluation tools.
  • Respond innovatively to changing technologies, clinical practice guidelines and to changes in organizational structure and goals.
  • Ensures the incorporation of research findings into evidence-based practice and education.
  • Employs strategies to promote and enhance clinical outcomes with a focus on high reliability and accountability in clinical practice
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of evidenced based clinical practice standards to promote professional performance with clinical engagement in onboarding and professional development.
  • Develop and maintain standardized education materials, competency checklists, and learning resources tailored to ambulatory settings.
  • Reviews ambulatory clinical policies and procedures/process job aids for best practices
  • Engages personal practice and staff practices for cultural diversity in the clinical setting
  • Provides consultation to individuals or groups as requested.
  • Provides real-time coaching and procedure/skills support for clinical staff.
  • Provides remedial education instructions for employees as requested by the department manager.
  • Provides resources and ideas for employees seeking information on job or healthcare related topics.
  • Engages in continuous learning activities that will assist in the acquisition of new skills and maintenance of current competence.
  • Participates in Shared Governance.
  • Applies an educational framework to staff development programs.
  • Educational needs are identified from numerous other sources, including advances in care technology, patient populations, individual needs of staff, the findings of quality monitoring, performance appraisals, safety, and infection control survey.
  • Collaborates and engages leadership to identify department specific orientation and education.
  • Stays current on informatics interfaces, electronic medical records, and technology used by clinical staff in the organization.
  • Plans and implements yearly calendar of educational activities.
  • Includes a variety of learning opportunities for different learning styles (i.e. lecture series, Lunch & Learns, In-services, Roving education, Hands on demonstrations, etc.)
  • Travels to off campus locations to provide learning opportunities in various clinic settings
  • Identifies online learning opportunities and assigns online learning modules clinical team members as needed
  • Prioritizes programs/in-services appropriately based on feedback from leadership and staff.
  • Provides evaluation form for any educational activity, orientation, in-service, &/or CE program to receive feedback and make adjustments to course content if improvements are needed
  • Makes changes based on outcomes of participant evaluations.
  • Provides basic curriculum design for the development, coordinating, and evaluation of:
  • Develops and coordinates schedule for program content &/or classes.
  • Monitors attendance and oversees scheduling related to programming.
  • Teaches unit specific classes &/or coordinates expert speakers as needed
  • Assesses and adapts teaching approach to accommodate a variety of learning styles
  • Develops and coordinates clinical rotations for all clinical students in the AMG Scholars programs
  • Develops and maintains standardized education materials, competency checklists, and learning resources tailored to ambulatory settings.
  • Develops and coordinates schedule of all clinical orientation classes.
  • Monitors attendance and oversees scheduling of all clinical employees for various orientation activities including matching with preceptor.
  • Collaborates with unit manager to ensure frequent check-ins with new hires and consistent communication on progress.
