The Clinical Nurse C demonstrates competency in prescreening patients before procedures requiring general anesthesia or monitored anesthesia care. The role coordinates care and communication among the healthcare team to support optimal surgical outcomes and works closely with surgeon offices to obtain pre-operative test results, history and physicals, medication and allergy information, and other relevant information about diagnoses, procedures, and comorbidities. The nurse identifies potential issues that could negatively affect outcomes or delay or cancel surgery, and provides patients, families, or caregivers with education about surgery and recovery as appropriate. The Clinical Nurse C independently performs the nursing process—assessment, care planning, intervention, and evaluation—in accordance with LLUMC’s Professional Practice Model (Duffy’s Quality Caring Theory), supporting individualized physical, psychosocial, and spiritual wellness. The role meets the expectations of an accomplished professional nurse and nursing excellence standards for maintaining Magnet Recognition, advances evidence into point-of-care practice, and contributes to a caring and cooperative work environment for a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
