Clinical Mentor (RN) Medical Surgical
About The Position
Inova Fairfax Hospital is seeking an experienced RN Clinical Mentor to support the Women’s Medical Unit (7) and 3/5 Original (Med Surg) units. The role focuses on training, coaching, and mentoring nursing staff to promote high-quality nursing care. The Clinical Mentor orients, educates, and develops staff; supports novice and advanced nurses and preceptors as they transition into practice and the work environment; and addresses team members’ clinical and social adjustment needs. The role also participates in designing, delivering, and evaluating educational programs that support clinical development and career progression from novice to proficient nurse. This is a full-time, Monday–Friday position with regular office hours and some flexibility based on department needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing.
- Two years of progressive nursing experience in the designated specialty.
- Three months of experience serving as a preceptor.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse, or an active multi-state RN license.
Responsibilities
- Develop expertise in training, coaching, and mentoring staff to promote and deliver high-quality nursing care.
- Orient, educate, and develop nursing staff to ensure competence and ability to fulfill specified responsibilities.
- Support novice and advanced nurses and preceptors to ensure a smooth transition into practice and the work environment.
- Integrate knowledge, skills, and experience to meet the clinical and social adjustment needs of team members.
- Participate in the design, delivery, and evaluation of educational programs that promote clinical development and career progression from novice to proficient nurse for new or existing clinicians.
