About The Position

Under the general guidance of the Physician Director, the Clinical Manager Ambulatory is responsible for translating and supporting the goals, objectives, policies, and procedures of the department. This role maintains the standards of nursing practice in the ambulatory care setting across multiple satellite office locations. The Clinical Manager Ambulatory has delegated authority to make decisions in the areas of patient care delivery, human resource management, and budgetary development and compliance.

Requirements

  • BSN with current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in the nurse’s primary state of legal residency if that state is a member of the Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Conformity to the Code of Professional Nurses.
  • Understanding of the provisions of the Nurse Practice Act of the state of Rhode Island.
  • Current BLS required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
  • Three or more years of progressively responsible clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated basic management skills.
  • Ability to function as a resource to the clinical staff (RN and Medical Assistant).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Effective prioritization and organizational skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with specific practice type office procedures and terminology highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and communicates department policies, procedures, and expectations to staff.
  • Develops department policies consistent with BHMG, ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies and achievement of department goals.
  • Demonstrates competency in performing clinical care and assessment of patients.
  • Assists with direct patient care, interacting with patients with maturity and discretion.
  • Defines and resolves clinical and operational issues, maintaining associated documentation.
  • Investigates and resolves patient care management problems, reporting issues and outcomes to the Director.
  • Maintains documentation and statistical data on operations as required by management and regulatory agencies.
  • Evaluates service areas to identify problems, assess the need for new or expanded services, and makes recommendations for improvement and development.
  • Effectively manages human resources, including participation in interviews, selection, and orientation of RN and Medical Assistant staff.
  • Ensures employees receive adequate department-specific training.
  • Performs annual performance evaluations, providing constructive feedback and assisting in goal establishment.
  • Handles employee issues according to HR policies, including disputes and performance problems, and develops performance improvement plans.
  • Provides oversight of provider schedule templates and ensures patient schedules are appropriately supported.
  • Oversees patient access to care, appointment availability, and efficient daily operations.
  • Functions as a resource to staff for clarifying schedules and administrative processes.
  • Develops and provides in-service education programs for RN and Medical Assistant staff, evaluating and tracking results.
  • Performs administrative duties such as planning and budgeting, monitoring expenditures, and researching variances.
  • Appropriately budgets and coordinates the purchase of major equipment.
  • Implements and monitors operational plans to achieve goals, interacting with other managers for planning and coordination.
  • May schedule monthly clinical staff meetings to review objectives.
  • Reviews, monitors, and updates operational plans with the Clinical Manager, Director, and physician as needed.
  • Maintains required records, reports, and statistics for administrative purposes and regulatory audits.
  • Initiates and participates in Quality Assurance and Patient Safety activities.
  • Provides oversight for the functional reliability of equipment, referring complex problems to vendors.
  • Travels to satellite offices to provide clinical oversight.
  • Protects and preserves patient and employee right to confidentiality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
