About The Position

The Clinical Leader Participates in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating patient care and developing programs to support clinical care consistent with the mission and goals of Brigham & Women's Faulkner Hospital as well as the requirements of JCAHO and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. Responsibilities include participation in oversight and operation of the patient care area, ensuring quality patient care for patients in the following age groups: adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. The Clinical Leader will also ensure the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies best practice. The Endoscopy Triage Clinical Leader collaborates with Nursing, Administrative, and Provider leadership in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating patient care and developing programs to support clinical care consistent with the mission, goals, and professional practice model of Brigham & Women's Faulkner Hospital as well as the requirements of applicable federal, state and local regulatory and/or accrediting agencies. With skills spanning all areas of endoscopy practice, the Clinical Leader will drive the development and use of evidence-based practice, information system structures, and processes to support the highest quality, most efficient patient care. Responsibilities include participation in oversight and operation of the patient care area and ensuring quality care for patients across the lifespan. Central goals of this role are to enhance the productive, meaningful use of information systems, new technology, and practice standards to benefit staff, patients, families, and the organization; strengthen collaboration between all Endoscopy areas, the Brigham Health Endoscopy group, and other hospital units to support optimized patient flow and excellent patient experience. Assists Nursing, Administrative, and Provider leadership in translating the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the hospital and nursing service into effective action and assures the practice of the Patient and Family Centered Care Model in an environment that exemplifies evidence-based best practice.

Requirements

BSN required.
Current Faulkner endoscopy triage experience of at least one year required.
Registered Nurse in Massachusetts
ACLS and BLS certification required
Endoscopy: experience in Endoscopy/ Gastroenterology Nursing 2-3 years
recent demonstrated history of successful functioning in the triage role
Demonstrated history of leadership in enhancing electronic resources to support patient care
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Works with the Nursing Director to evaluate practice, recommend change and identify outcomes related to nursing practice
Able to plan and implement educational opportunities
Act a resource and mentor

Responsibilities

PROVISION OF A SAFE ENVIRONMENT: Anticipates and identifies safety risks and takes appropriate action. Assures compliance with safety standards by assessing staff and patient needs and taking appropriate action.

Maintains a system for communication with manager and staff of assigned units. Meets deadlines for projects and reports.
COLLABORATIVE INTERDISCIPLINARY CARE: Fosters collaboration of health care team members to provide interdisciplinary patient care. Participates in unit, department and/or interdisciplinary committees. Role models effective communication, teamwork and mediations as appropriate.
PATIENT/FAMILY EDUCATION: Supports and facilitates patient/family age appropriate education into orientation, in-services, and continuing education. Develops and implements patient/family teaching protocols and materials if appropriate.
COMPETENCY: Identifies trends and competency needs of staff based on staff input. Supports compliance with hospital, nursing, and unit specific competencies (orientation and annual) by developing a system for monitoring competencies. Coordinates with Nursing Director and staff development to provide method and content for annual competencies. Evaluates competency of non-licensed personnel in collaboration with Nursing Director.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT: Demonstrates knowledge of principles of SEAQ /performance improvement and customer service. Participates in development and implementation of the QI plan for the area. Supports and revises patient care based on QI results and current research data. Ensures quality assurance in all aspects of patient nursing care.
PATIENT CARE: Acts as a clinical resource to staff by: Evaluating patient care outcomes based on age-specific needs; Recommending changes in practice based on current research data; Developing and promoting patient care standards. Assists staff to problem solve and respond to psychosocial needs of patients and families and takes appropriate action.
CONTINUUM OF CARE: Facilitates patient information across departments, systems, and other facilities.
LEADERSHIP: Provide care across the lifespan and across all populations, with an emphasis on health promotion and risk reduction. PATIENT CARE (Endoscopy): Clinical Practice: Demonstrates clinical expertise, integrating nursing theory and practice. Collaborates with nursing and interdisciplinary team members to ensure safest, most efficient patient flow through all clinical areas. Employs evidence-based practice in decision-making and patient care. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients’ needs are met and hospital policy is followed. Utilizes the nursing process for the delivery and management of patient’s care across the continuum of care appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population. Collaborates with nurses and other members of the health care team to optimize plan of care. Develops and monitors systems that promote and support top of license, professional nursing practice. Interacts with staff nurses to assess the care provided and the nurses’ capabilities to provide care in changing circumstances. Provides consultation to patients, family members and nursing staff as issues arise regarding the patient’s hospitalization or care experience. Acts as a clinical resource to staff by: A. Promotes staff participation in unit and hospital committees/task forces and serves on appropriate committees/task forces. Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level. Supports the ongoing development of staff through coaching, mentoring and role modeling. Collaborates with other members of leadership team in providing appropriate educational opportunities for licensed and unlicensed personnel.
