About The Position

Love Justice International (LJI) is a Christian nonprofit dedicated to fighting injustice and sharing Christ's love through anti-human trafficking efforts and care for orphaned children. This role is part of the Economic Empowerment Program (EEP), which aims to help disadvantaged individuals achieve sustainable economic self-sufficiency. The program utilizes a structured curriculum and a tiered counselor model, where trained lay counselors deliver content under clinical supervision, with clear escalation pathways to specialist care. The pilot for this program launches in South Africa in 2026, with plans for future expansion. This contract position is designed to complement an established clinical practice and involves approximately 20 hours per week over a 4-month fixed term, with potential for extension and growth.

Requirements

  • Master's degree (or higher) in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or related field.
  • HPCSA registration as a Clinical or Counseling Psychologist required.
  • 7+ years of post-qualification experience, including supervisory or training roles.
  • Mature Christian faith and agreement with LJI's Global Value to 'Abide in Christ'.
  • Agreement with LJI's Core Value 'Be the Kingdom' and acknowledgment of their Statement of Faith.
  • Passion for justice and advocacy on behalf of vulnerable populations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with task-sharing models (Friendship Bench, mhGAP, PRIME, or similar) strongly preferred.
  • Experience with trauma-affected populations preferred.
  • Experience in sub-Saharan African settings preferred.
  • Ability to work well in cross-cultural contexts.

Responsibilities

  • Design the clinical model for the EEP's tiered counselor program, including protocol, training curriculum, supervisory structure, and escalation pathways.
  • Train and clinically supervise the lay counselor cadre and the local clinical supervisor for the South African pilot.
  • Serve as the program's senior clinical authority on safeguarding, including holding escalation decisions and verifying referral pathways.
  • Conduct quality assurance, including session fidelity review, case discussion, and refinement of the protocol based on pilot experience.
  • Document the model and lessons learned to support expansion into additional countries.
