About The Position
OpenEvidence is seeking a world-class clinician-scientist to lead the clinical research and evaluation agenda for its medical AI platform in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This role involves proving the accuracy, safety, and usefulness of the platform in these settings, shaping how it is validated and adapted. The ideal candidate is a practicing clinician with a deep understanding of clinical workflows in LMICs and a passion for building the evidence base for medical AI from the ground up. This is a hands-on role requiring end-to-end ownership of clinical evaluations and a commitment to uncompromising excellence.
Requirements
- Medical training and clinical practice (MD, GP, MBBS, or equivalent).
- Direct experience delivering care.
- Fluid reasoning from how diagnosis, triage, treatment, and referral actually happen at the bedside.
- Concrete, on-the-ground understanding of clinical and care-delivery workflows in LMICs and their implications for AI tool design and evaluation.
- Direct experience evaluating or validating clinical AI/ML tools.
- Understanding of the gap between benchmark performance and real-world clinical safety.
- Deep expertise in clinical research and evidence generation for digital health or AI tools.
- Clear view of what counts as credible evidence for safety and effectiveness.
- Strong command of the regulatory and normative landscape for clinical AI, including WHO processes, national regulatory authorities in LMICs, and research ethics.
- Track record of building research partnerships with academic and in-country researchers.
- Treat local partners as scientific collaborators rather than data-collection sites.
- Brilliant builder who is also a practicing clinician.

Nice To Haves
- Experience working with philanthropic funders on evidence generation or research strategy.
- Experience at a healthtech or AI company in clinical validation, clinical quality, or medical affairs.
- Publication record in digital health, clinical AI evaluation, or implementation science.
- Direct clinical experience in a low- or middle-income country, including with humanitarian or global-health delivery organizations.
Responsibilities
- Own the clinical research and evaluation agenda for OpenEvidence in global health.
- Design clinical evaluations and validation frameworks to establish OpenEvidence's performance in LMIC contexts, covering accuracy, safety, multilingual performance, and real-world conditions.
- Develop theories of change and outcome metrics connecting OpenEvidence's capabilities to care quality, health-worker performance, and patient outcomes.
- Help shape the safeguards that make the product safe and usable at the point of care.
- Translate understanding of care delivery in low-resource settings into product improvements.
- Roll up sleeves on adjacent workstreams within a small, tight-knit global health team.
- Help set overall strategy and be a thought partner to colleagues.
- Conduct approximately 25% of time at research and partner sites.
