Clinical Laboratory Technologist - Freestanding Emergency Dept
About The Position
LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Lab Professional to join their team at Ascension Sacred Heart Freestanding Emergency Department in Navarre, FL. This is a casual/per diem position with hours that will be "as needed" and the start and end times will vary on the 1st shift. The role involves determining the acceptability of specimens for testing, performing routine and complex technical procedures, operating and troubleshooting instrumentation, and making technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving. The position also includes preparing, testing, and evaluating new reagents or controls, reporting accurate and timely test results, performing and documenting preventive maintenance and quality control, replenishing testing bench supplies, assisting with specimen processing, and maintaining a safe work environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
- FL Medical Technologists (MT) license
Nice To Haves
- ASCP or AMT certification
- Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Proficient with computers
- High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Responsibilities
- Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
- Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
- Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
- Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving
- Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
- Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
- Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
- Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
- Assist with processing of specimens when needed
- Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
