About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Lab Professional to join our team at UAB St. Vincent’s East in Birmingham, AL. This role involves performing a vital component of clinical lab science in a high-volume, production-based environment. The position requires determining the acceptability of specimens, performing routine and complex technical procedures, monitoring and troubleshooting instrumentation, and preparing, testing, and evaluating new reagents or controls. Accurate and timely reporting of test results is crucial for quality patient care. The role also includes preparing, testing, and evaluating new reagents or controls, identifying and replenishing testing bench supplies, and assisting with specimen processing when needed. Maintaining a safe work environment and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment are also key responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience OR an MLS degree
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems
  • Proficient with computers
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP or AMT certification
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
