About The Position

Montefiore Medical Center's Division of Clinical Pathology is responsible for the laboratory testing of blood, urine, and body fluids for disease diagnosis and health maintenance. Utilizing the latest advances in computer technology, the Division maintains millions of dollars of state-of-the-art automated equipment at its laboratory sites and services hospitals, nursing homes, the Montefiore Medical Group, faculty practices, and voluntary physicians' offices at more than 40 sites. Perform routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids using a variety of automated and manual instrumentation in a timely manner. These tests are performed under supervision. Maintain equipment and records according to department procedures and regulatory guidelines in the areas of QA and QC. Use independent judgment to solve technical and procedural problems.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Medical Technology or Science or higher is required
  • 1 year of work experience
  • New York State Clinical Laboratory Technician License or a limited permit is required. Applicants must obtain the provisional within the probationary period of three month for continued employment. Prior to obtaining the provisional permit, associates may not release any patient reports.
  • Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment and other laboratory equipment are required

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on procedure. Monitor specimens to ensure work is completed.
  • Report all panic, abnormal, etc. values.
  • Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
  • Prepare reagents and take inventory, and advise supervisor as required.
  • Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
  • Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
  • Assist with the training of new employees.
  • Maintain clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
  • Perform other laboratory related tasks under the direction of a supervisor, as and when required.
