About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Lab Technician to join our team at Ascension St. Thomas DeKalb in Smithville, Tennessee. This is a PRN (as needed) position with variable start and end times, requiring availability for both day and night shifts. The role involves performing routine and complex technical procedures, operating and troubleshooting instrumentation, and making technical decisions regarding testing and problem-solving. The technician will also prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls, report accurate and timely test results, and perform preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Additionally, responsibilities include replenishing testing bench supplies, assisting with specimen processing, and maintaining a safe work environment with appropriate personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology.
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience.
  • 1 year or more clinical core lab and blood bank experience.
  • ASCP or AMT certification.
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information systems.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficient with computers.
  • High level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Assist with outpatient phlebotomy as needed.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
