About The Position

The role of the Clinical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for analyzing specimens, verifying reports, performing quality assurance, and reviewing results for validity. Schedule: Weekend Pick-Up As Needed

Requirements

  • BS in Medical Technology or equivalent.
  • Active MT/MLS (ASCP) certification
  • Two years of generalist experience preferred.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established procedures for obtaining and processing biological specimens for analysis in the department.
  • Analyzes clinical laboratory specimens
  • Performs data entry into the computer
  • Verifies and reports laboratory results
  • Follows procedures approved by the Laboratory Director (or his/her designee) for the running of tests, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting test systems and laboratory equipment.
  • Reviews results for validity; notifies provider of critical or unusual results; consults with Medical Director or pathologist when questions arise.
  • Runs quality control specimens according to approved procedures
  • Performs corrective action when necessary
  • Documents QC values and corrective actions
  • Determines validity of test runs based on QC results
  • Prepares and runs proficiency test specimens according to approved procedures
  • Completes all related paperwork
  • Performs calibrations and calibration verifications on instruments as necessary and according to approved procedures
  • Participates in ongoing daily quality assurance activities and quality assurance studies
  • Works closely with Medical Director, pathologist, and/or managers to continually improve laboratory operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Develops the ability to recognize factors and instrumental behavior that affects analytical measurements and result and takes appropriate corrective action in accordance with established protocols.
  • Recognizes equipment malfunctions and failures and notifies the technologist and/or supervisor.
  • Assists in training new laboratory assistant and technician personnel by demonstrating necessary laboratory skills and procedures.
  • Participates in continuing education programs as directed by the department technical supervisor.
  • Always follows appropriate safety practices in the laboratory.
  • Follows company guidelines and regulations.
