About The Position

LabCorp is seeking a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor to join their team at Ascension St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, TN. This role involves supervising the day-to-day operations of the Core Lab during evening and night shifts, ensuring accurate and timely performance of laboratory tests and reporting of results. The supervisor will directly oversee, train, and mentor laboratory personnel, monitor daily workflow, and schedule assay coverage. Key responsibilities include managing production errors, driving continuous process improvements, ensuring equipment maintenance through Quality Control, preparing Quality Assurance records, evaluating new process improvements, conducting regular meetings with direct reports for coaching and feedback, performing bench work as needed, maintaining proficiency, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and handling administrative duties such as payroll and personnel files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
  • 5 or more years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) generalist and/or blood bank MLS
  • TN Supervisor license OR ability to obtain a TN Supervisor license within 3 months of hire
  • Strong working knowledge of CLIA, CAP and relevant state regulations
  • Understanding of laboratory operations as well as policies and procedures
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Systems and Microsoft Office
  • Strong communication skills; both written and verbal
  • High level of attention to detail with strong organizational skills
  • Comfortability making decisions in a changing environment
  • Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • ASCP, AAB, or AMT certification
  • 5 or more years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) generalist within a hospital laboratory environment
  • 1 or more years of leadership experience in a clinical core lab environment
  • Non-traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may meet education requirement

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day to day operations of the Core Lab on evenings and nights
  • Ensure laboratory tests are accurately performed and results are reported in a timely manner
  • Directly supervise, train, and mentor laboratory personnel of the department
  • Monitor daily workflow in the lab and schedule adequate assay coverage
  • Responsible for ensuring all shifts in the department are properly staffed
  • Research and resolve any production errors while escalating when necessary
  • Engage in continuous process and service level improvements
  • Ensure all equipment is being properly maintained through Quality Control
  • Prepare and maintain Quality Assurance records and documents
  • Evaluate new process improvements and make appropriate recommendations
  • Meet regularly with direct reports to provide coaching and feedback for their development
  • Perform bench work as needed and maintain proficiency/competency in technical operations
  • Ensure all work is in accordance with state and Federal regulations
  • Responsible for administering and managing policies and procedures
  • Process and maintain payroll and personnel files, and administrative duties as needed
