About The Position

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, is hiring an experienced Clinical Laboratory Specialist to work full-time days in the Immunohistochemistry (IHC) Lab. The specialist assumes responsibility for specific laboratory technical disciplines within Sentara entities and may function as the manager for a specialized clinical discipline. The role analyzes patient data and suggests physician protocols to confirm diagnoses, consults with pathologists, physicians, and other team members, identifies training needs, and implements training to ensure laboratory staff competency. The specialist also coordinates implementation of new laboratory services across Sentara entities and contributes to system, hospital, and departmental goals and objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree.
• ASCP certification.
• Three years of IHC experience.

Responsibilities

• Assume responsibility for specific laboratory technical disciplines within Sentara entities.
• May function as the lab manager for a specialized clinical discipline.
• Analyze patient data and suggest physician protocols for confirming patient diagnoses.
• Act as a consultant to pathologists, physicians, and other team members.
• Identify training needs and implement training to ensure laboratory staff competency.
• Coordinate implementation of new laboratory services within Sentara entities.
• Contribute to system, hospital, and departmental goals and objectives.
