About The Position

Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs all laboratory tests necessary for diagnosis and treatment of patients at the request of attending physician(s). Is responsible for reporting results, which are accurate as substantiated by the use of appropriate controls. Performs and demonstrates proficiency and understanding of routine procedures for all areas of the clinical laboratory with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in the routine work of all laboratory departments is required; expanding knowledge and interest in one or more areas is desirable
  • Ability to follow requirements for carrying out activities under established and formal procedures
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, chemical, physical or biological science
  • A California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license as well as ASCP certification (or other nationally recognized equivalent certification) are mandatory
  • Ability to Commute: Hollister, CA 95023 (Required)
  • Ability to Relocate: Hollister, CA 95023: Relocate before starting work (Required)

  • One to two years of experience is desirable

Responsibilities

  • Completes required tests and/or observations of patients’ specimens, blood samples or other products required for testing
  • Verifies that appropriate specimen is being analyzed for correct patient and test
  • Accommodates STAT orders and requested
  • Records work performed; may prepare summaries or statistical data
  • Tests received up to two (2) hours before the end of the shift are completed or in process
  • Inspects and calibrates instruments used in work
  • Assists others in the completion of all laboratory work assignments
  • May assist in teaching new employees and non-professionals
  • Maintains expertise in one or more areas of the lab
  • May research and develop new procedures
  • Maintains work areas in clean, sanitary condition
  • Follows designated infection control procedures
  • Performs periodic inventory of supplies and reagents
  • Prepares specimens for mailing or delivery to other labs
  • Performs simple maintenance and calibrations on equipment
  • Performs quality control procedures
  • Reports critical values to physicians
  • Performs other duties as requested
