About The Position

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) works under minimal supervision and is responsible for complex molecular diagnostic testing laboratory procedures using all types of qualified specimens submitted for testing. This role involves a Tuesday through Saturday schedule. The CLS is expected to have exceptional knowledge of techniques involving DNA/RNA extractions, PCR and RT-PCR reactions, DNA sequencing, and other molecular genetic techniques. They are also considered a resource for microarray technology, including labeling RNA, hybridizing, washing, and scanning microarrays. The position requires performing diagnostic laboratory activities according to standard operating procedures, and composing/revising SOPs under the direction of leadership. Consultation with the Lab Director, Lab Ops Director, or Lab Manager regarding daily workflow and troubleshooting is expected. The CLS must perform all laboratory procedures following safety guidelines and adhering to Agendia, Inc.’s health and safety policies. Responsibilities include assigned projects such as instrument comparisons, calibrations, staff schedules, process improvement, lab training and competency, and assay or instrument validation. Post-analytic duties include maintaining a filing system for patient data, registering results in a lab journal and LIMS, and assisting other personnel. Professionally, the CLS is expected to pursue career development through literature, seminars, and workshops, and adhere to various federal and state laws and regulations (e.g., California labor laws, OSHA, CLIA, College of American Pathologist, New York State Department of Health, GLP, GCP, HIPAA, ISO 13485). Ethical and professional behavior, along with maintaining patient confidentiality, are paramount.

Requirements

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 4+ years clinical laboratory experience with a Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years clinical lab experience with a Master’s degree.
  • 2+ years clinical lab experience with a doctoral degree.
  • Experience with molecular diagnostic techniques.
  • Experience with histology techniques.
  • Experience working with databases.
  • Experience with microarray analysis.
  • Experience working with quality systems.
  • Experience with lab automation.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and/or software.
  • California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist (CGMBS) License or any other specialist license that can perform high complexity molecular testing.
  • Exceptional understanding of general laboratory techniques and medical terminology with emphasis for the department specific techniques.
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of initiative, balanced assertiveness and team orientation.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to handle biological samples and potentially hazardous chemicals.
  • Ability to operate equipment proficiently to successfully execute test procedures.
  • Computer skills and laboratory automation knowledge.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • A CLS II must be on-site during testing procedures.

  • Considered by the CLS I staff as a resource for micro array technology, such as, labeling RNA, hybridizing, washing and scanning micro arrays.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex molecular diagnostic testing laboratory procedures.

  • Register results and data in lab journal and LIMS.
  • Assist other personnel and departments when requested.
  • Initiate own career development by staying familiar with current literature and seeking professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to various federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Exhibit ethical and professional behavior at all times.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Be on-site during testing procedures in the absence of Laboratory Director, Lab Ops Director, or Lab Manager.
